LITE Recovery cafe

The LITE Recovery Cafe officially opened on August 15, 2023 and celebrated its Grand Opening in September. We are open Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (hours and schedule below).

What is a Recovery Cafe anyway?

Let’s start with what it’s NOT…

We are not going to be in competition with our friends locally who run awesome coffee shops and cafes. In fact, the plan is to partner with them and boost their visibility. The term “Recovery Café” was used when these formed in Seattle because they first met in closed coffee shops in the evening. So, we aren’t a restaurant, coffee shop, or café...

OK, so what is it then?

We are a community built on the belief that we’re all in recovery from something and that every human being is worthy of love and connection regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, addictive behaviors, abuse, grief, or adjusting after reentry. We are a love-based community that welcomes everyone with open arms. Our cafe is a safe haven where people can come together, feel a deep sense of belonging, and be empowered to take control of their lives and heal. In short, at some point in all our lives we have, or are going to, struggle. And then, you’re welcome here. And if you’ve traversed one of these paths and found something that works, then you’re welcome to help us lead others along your path. We welcome all evidence-based pathways to recovery.

The community is membership-driven. Yes, it’s open to all, but you must meet certain expectations before you can become a member. And if you don’t continue to meet them, you will no longer be a member. It’s simple accountability.

What does it cost is generally the next question we get. There are costs of membership, but they pale in comparison to the benefits of membership and money is not part of the cost. Simply, participate in a weekly Recovery Circle, help with chores in and around the building, and work to bring others along this same path. That’s it. Well, we also ask that you abstain from substances and alcohol for the 24 hours immediately preceding attendance and participation.
